In light of legal action abroad involving a senior leader of a Karachi-based political party, there is a possibility of protest and unrest in Karachi and Sindh province. U.S. citizens are urged to stay aware of the latest information and to use good judgment in evaluating their safety and security. Scheduled or unscheduled protests may result in road closures, high volumes of road traffic, or other movement restrictions. As a precautionary measure, the U.S. Consulate in Karachi will not be providing previously scheduled visa and American Citizen Services appointments on Wednesday, June 4; those affected are being contacted to reschedule.
The U.S. Mission in Pakistan also reminds U.S. citizens of the ongoing threat of violence in Pakistan and advises all U.S. citizens to maintain a high state of caution. Public areas, including markets, shopping centers, and restaurants, continue to be at a high risk for attacks. As Pakistan security forces continue operations in the FATA and other areas, terrorist groups may look for opportunities to launch such attacks. U.S. citizens should vary their times and routes when traveling anywhere in Pakistan, and to avoid travel patterns to such locations that would allow other persons to predict when and where they will be. Depending on ongoing security assessments, and as part of routine operational security measures, the U.S. Mission occasionally places certain public areas off limits to official personnel.
