Security Alert – U.S. Consulate Lahore, Pakistan

Location:  Lahore, from Nisar Haveli to Karbala Gamay Shah

Event:  On May 27, 2019, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the central procession of Youm-e-Ali is expected to begin at Nisar Haveli and proceed to Karbala Gamay Shah. This is expected to be a large procession, with dozens of smaller processions from various parts of the city potentially joining this main procession. The procession is expected to conclude at approximately 8:00 p.m. Expect traffic delays, increased numbers of people in public areas, and unplanned disruptions in transportation. U.S. government personnel are advised to avoid the surrounding area for the duration of the procession.

The following roads and areas will be closed:

  • Lower Mall Road from Zilla Katchehry, Karbala Gammay Shah to Bhattee Chowk
  • Circular Road from Kotwali to Bhattee Chowk
  • The area surrounding the Walled City

Consulate Operations: Consulate operations are normal.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the area surrounding the procession route
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Avoid crowds
  • Avoid demonstrations
  • Keep a low profile
  • Be aware of your surroundings
