Security Alert – U. S. Consulate General Karachi, Pakistan

Location:  Karachi, Pakistan 

Event:  In honor of Pakistan Independence Day on Saturday, August 14th, many public and private celebrations will be held throughout the city, severely impacting local traffic conditions.  Celebratory gun fire is not uncommon.  U.S. government personnel in Karachi have been instructed to stay indoors beginning Friday, August 13th, 23:00 until 04:00 on August 14th.  The U.S. Consulate in Karachi strongly encourages U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings, unnecessary travel, and remain vigilant of their surroundings.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid large public gatherings.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of a large gathering and/or demonstration.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
