Location: Lahore, Pakistan
Event: On September 27-28, 2021, in commemoration of Chehlum, religious processions are expected to draw upwards of 50,000 participants.
Lahore Chehlum processions have been a prime target of terrorists in the past. As a result, American staff at the U.S. Consulate in Lahore are prohibited from traveling in and around the Old City on September 27-28, to include the following areas:
Walled City and Lower Mall Area
Secretariat
Food Street (to include restaurants Andaz, Coco, Haveli)
Anar Kali and Sanda
Badshahi Mosque
Fort Area and Greater Iqbal Park
Significant traffic delays and disruptions to transportation across the city are expected. The U. S. Consulate in Lahore strongly encourages U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings, unnecessary travel, and remain vigilant of their surroundings.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the areas of large public gatherings.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of a large gathering and/or demonstration.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
