Security Alert – U. S. Consulate General Lahore, Pakistan (July 15, 2022)
Location: Lahore, Pakistan.
Event: On Sunday, July 17, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will hold By-Elections in 20 Provincial Assembly seats across the Punjab, including the following four constituencies in Lahore:
Garhi Shahu, Dharampura, Gulberg, Jail Road
Johar Town
Nishtar Town, Walton, Ferozepur Road, Cavalry, Kot Lakhpat, Kainchi
Wapda Town, Valencia Town, Township, College Road, and PIA Road.
Police have confirmed that there is potential for political violence on election day. Lahore Police will deploy over 8,000 officers and establish police checkpoints focused on polling stations throughout the city. Significant traffic delays and disruptions to transportation across Lahore are expected.
U.S. Consulate General Lahore strongly encourages U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings, unnecessary travel, and remain vigilant of their surroundings.

- Avoid the areas of large public gatherings.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of a large gathering and/or demonstration.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
