Security Alert – U. S. Embassy Islamabad, Pakistan

Location:  Islamabad

Event:  Local media report a planned protest in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s offices at Constitution Avenue (Sector F-5/2), scheduled for Tuesday, January 19.  Protestors are expected to move along the Srinagar Highway and Ataturk Avenue beginning at mid-day and reach the Election Commission around 2pm (local).  The number of protesters is anticipated to be in the thousands. The protest may result in traffic delays, street closures, and disruption of cell phone networks. 

Actions to Take:

1. Avoid crowds.
2. Avoid demonstrations.
3. Keep a low profile.
4. Review your personal security plans.  
5. Be aware of your surroundings.
6. Monitor local media for updates.
7. Enroll in Safe Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates.
