Event: Local media report political rallies and large gatherings scheduled in Islamabad for the afternoon of Friday, May 21. Protesters will hold a rally beginning at Centaurus Mall at 3:00 p.m. The destination of the rally will be D-Chowk.
Additional demonstrations can occur daily and without advanced warning. Large public protests may result in traffic delays, street closures, increased police presence, and disruption of cell phone networks. Demonstrations, political rallies, sporting events, or large religious gatherings intended to be peaceful can sometimes become violent. During demonstrations or periods of civil unrest, the Pakistani government may disable cellular telephone and internet service, making it difficult for individuals to contact each other or the U.S. Embassy or Consulates. U.S. Embassy and Consulate personnel are routinely instructed to avoid large crowds and demonstrations.
The U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings, unnecessary travel, and remain vigilant of their surroundings.
