Appointments

We require an appointment for all routine services. The online appointment system allows you to schedule your own appointment in a time slot that suits you. This process is fast and easy and improves the quality and efficiency of the service that we provide.

We recommend you to make passport renewal appointments at least six months before your passport will expire.

If you show up without an appointment, or with the incorrect type of appointment for the service you require, we will not be able to assist you. Please be sure you are correctly scheduling your appointment for the type of service you need.

Special Notice for Islamabad Applicants:

 Applicants who arrive after 10:00 are considered late and may be asked to reschedule. Allow at least 1 hour before your appointment time to take the Diplomatic Shuttle from 3rd Ave to the Embassy. A small fee applies

Appointment-based services are available from Monday through Thursday and every other Friday from 7:30 – 11:00 am.

Location of the Embassy

The U.S. Embassy is located in Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave. For information about U.S. Consulates in Karachi & Lahore please click here.

When visiting the Consular Section, you must take the Diplomatic Shuttle. It is located at Third Avenue near Quaid-e-Azam University Road, G-5 Islamabad. The Diplomatic Shuttle will transport you from the Diplomatic Shuttle Service Center to the Consular Section for a small fee. Please ensure that you have some kind of identification with you, preferably your U.S passport. Other forms of identification may also be acceptable. If you need emergency service or have lost your passport, please inform security at the Diplomatic Shuttle Service Center of this and state that you are an American Citizen.

Only persons with an appointment, or the parents of minor children with an appointment, will be allowed to enter. Please do not bring friends or additional family members with you, as they will not be allowed to enter the Embassy.

What to Bring

Everyone entering the Embassy must bring a valid, government-issued I.D.

Please print and prepare the required documents before coming to your appointment. Document requirements for specific services are below. Appointments are required for these services:

  • Passports (Apply or Renew)
  • Report the Birth of Your American Citizen Child in Pakistan
  • Notaries, including Social Security applications
  • Extra passport pages

Prohibited Items

The following items are not allowed in the Embassy during your interview:

  • Mobile phones
  • Electronic personal digital assistants
  • Cameras
  • Audio or video recording devices
  • Laptop computers
  • Smart watches
  • Bluetooth
  • Portable music players
  • Travel bags
  • Back packs
  • Briefcases
  • Suitcases
  • Cosmetics (including but not limited to spray perfume, cologne and talcum or baby powder)
  • Bottles of any kind
  • Food items
  • Any sealed envelopes or packages.

Other items may be prohibited based on security staff discretion. There is no storage available for prohibited items. If you bring prohibited items with you, you will have to dispose of them before entry.

If you are planning to renounce your U.S. citizenship, you will need to schedule an appointment. Renunciations are complex in nature and require visiting the consular section on two separate occasions. Please click here for more information.

We process appointment-based services on Monday through Friday from from 7:30 – 11:00am.  If you are late for your appointment, we may ask you to reschedule. We suggest you arrive at least 30 minutes early in order to clear security.

We never require an appointment for emergency services.

American Citizen Services is closed to the public during U.S. and Pakistani holidays.

  • You will receive an email when your passport or report of birth abroad is ready.
  • Regrettably, we are unable to send passports for delivery through the mail.
  • Please bring your expired passport and fee receipt to collect your passport / report of birth abroad.
  • Applicants age 16 and over must collect their own passports.
  • For applicants under 16, either parent can collect the documents.
  • No appointment is necessary for pickup.

Islamabad – Monday through Thursday 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. except on U.S. and Pakistani holidays.

The U.S. Consulate General is located on Mai Kolachi road, Karachi.
