The U.S. Passport Card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry and is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book.  The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air.

Optional:  When renewing your passport, all U.S. citizens may also apply for a passport card.  The U.S. Passport Card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry and is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book. The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air.

You will need to bring the following to your appointment:

  • DS-82 passport form (fill out online and print).  Complete the form online, and print it.  Please DO NOT mail the form to the United States or the U.S. Consulate. Be sure to answer all questions accurately as any mistakes may result in a delay.  Print one-sided pages only, sign and date.
      • Check the appropriate box(es) on the top of the application Form DS-82: 
        [U.S. Passport Book]             [U.S. Passport Card]          [Both]
      • Fee for U.S. Passport Card:  The application fee for first time adult (over 16) applicants is $55.00; for a previous passport/passport card holder the fee is $30:00 and $40.00 for all minors under the age of 16.
      • Two U.S. passport sized (2x2inch) photographs.  See photograph requirements for information on the correct size.  Photographs which do not meet the requirements will be rejected.  If you are applying for both the passport card and passport, you will need to submit four U.S. passport sized (2x2inch) photographs.

A passport application will take approximately two weeks to process and a passport card, four to six weeks.
