A U.S. Congressional delegation, led by Rodney Frelinghuysen, U.S. Representative from New Jersey and Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee on Defense, visited Pakistan February 14-15.
Other members of the delegation were Peter Visclosky, U.S. Representative from Indiana and Ranking Member of the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee on Defense; Kenneth Calvert, U.S. Representative from California and Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies and Member of the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee on Defense; and James Moran, U.S. Representative from Virginia and Ranking Member of the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies and Member of the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee on Defense.
The delegation met with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmood, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, Defense Secretary Asif Yaseen Malik, and other Pakistani officials during their visit. The visiting Members of Congress discussed a broad range of mutual interests with Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership. The Congressional delegation underscored the U.S. resolve to coordinate closely on a variety of shared concerns such as security and civilian assistance to Pakistan.
