U.S. Consulate Peshawar Partners with Institute of Management Sciences to open Lincoln Reading Room

The Director of the Institute of Management Sciences Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan inaugurated the Lincoln Reading Room located in IM Sciences’ central library in Peshawar today.

Created through a partnership between the Public Affairs section of the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar and IM Sciences, the Lincoln Reading Room is one of sixteen located throughout Pakistan.  Lincoln Reading Rooms provide access to current and reliable information about the United States and offer a “window into America.”  Visitors to these centers can read about America and exchange views and opinions with Americans living in or visiting Pakistan.

Raymond Stephens, Public Affairs Officer at U.S. Consulate General Peshawar, said, “The IM Sciences Lincoln Reading Room represents another milestone in our efforts to create opportunities for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas to better understand the United States.” The Center is open to IM Sciences students, teachers, scholars, and their visitors from 09:00 to 17:00, and will provide up-to-date information on American people, history, society, geography, government, and popular culture.

The reading room houses more than 800 American books, documentary DVDs, and magazines.  It also provides online access to more than 80,000 books, journals, and other learning resources through theeLibrary USA digital library.  The new center also includes an audio-visual corner, internet terminals, and a digital conferencing facility.  Since 2005, Lincoln Reading Rooms have hosted hundreds of programs across the country on topics of mutual interest to the U.S. and Pakistan.
