U.S. Government upgrades Family Planning and Training Unit at Sandeman Provincial Hospital
Quetta –The newly upgraded Family Planning Training Unit (FPTU) at Sandeman Provincial Hospital. Funding for this activity was provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under its Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP).
Balochistan Secretary of Health Hafiz Abdul Majid was present at the occasion and said, “The Government of Balochistan is committed to improving its demographic and health indicators, especially with regard to maternal and child health.” He added that the lack of skilled health care providers was a challenge for the entire province and the FPTU would go a long way towards addressing lagging indicators.
Representatives from USAID MCSP provided an overview of the program’s accomplishments and emphasized the shortage of doctors in Balochistan. Therefore, MCSP focuses on providing high quality and competency based trainings on family planning to mid-level providers on long-acting reversible contraceptives. This enables them to tackle family planning educational and service delivery needs at both, health facility and community levels, given limited human and financial resources.
On behalf of Sandeman Provincial Hospital, Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa and Dr. Naila Ehsan, heads of the Gynecology and Obstetrics departments respectively, welcomed for continued capacity building support to improve maternal and child health outcomes throughout the province.
