United States Renews Lincoln Corner Collaboration with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar

PESHAWAR – The American Consulate Peshawar and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 10th to renew through July 2020 their collaboration in managing the Eleanor Roosevelt Corner in Peshawar (ERCP), established in 2015.  John Hoover, Chargé d’Affaires at the American Embassy, and Professor Dr. Razia Sultana, Vice Chancellor SBBWU, signed the MOU before a gathering of students and American officials.

Participants at the event praised ERCP’s work in promoting women’s education and entrepreneurship.  “Young girls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are as talented and ambitious as anywhere in the world, and Eleanor Roosevelt Corner Peshawar gives them a window of opportunity,” said Professor Sultana.

“The Eleanor Roosevelt Corner exemplifies the great value that Pakistanis and Americans place on education and entrepreneurship,” Chargé Hoover said.

The American Embassy runs a network of 18 Lincoln Corners across Pakistan.  Lincoln Corners are event spaces and resource centers where visitors can access databases, scholarly journals, e-books, newspaper articles, and multimedia content at no charge.  Recently, ERCP has been equipped with a 3D printer for young women to learn how to use high-tech tools.  The corner has hosted programs on gender-based violence, first aid, neighborhood cleanup, and business plan development.
