Update on Lawful Permanent Resident Status during COVID-19

Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status permits foreign nationals to legally reside in the United States.  The status is often associated with having a “green card.”  Despite the travel complexities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the LPR’s responsibilities, including maintaining permanent resident status, have remained the same.  LPRs who remain outside of the United States for an extended period of time may lose their LPR status.  For more information related to international travel as an LPR, please visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-we-grant-your-green-card/international-travel-as-a-permanent-resident.

Actions to Take:

Review dates of travel and expiration dates of official documents of LPR relatives.

Visit USCIS website for information regarding LPR status.
